1Xtra
The remit of 1Xtra is to play the best in contemporary black music with a strong emphasis on live music and supporting new UK artists.
The schedule should also offer a bespoke news service, regular discussion programmes and specially commissioned documentaries relevant to the young target audience (15-24 year olds), particularly - although not exclusively - those from ethnic minorities. We issue each BBC service a service licence, setting out what we expect it to achieve and how much it can spend.
Current service licence
The Trust reissued this service licence in April 2016 with an amended baseline budget for the year 2016/7. In giving approval to this change, the Trust has been assured by the BBC Executive that the change to the budget does not reflect any change to the remit, scope or other stated key characteristics of the service.
