Our job is to make sure the BBC provides the best possible public service to everyone who pays for it
"Our job is to make sure the BBC provides the best possible public service to everyone who pays for it, to protect its independence and give licence fee payers a say in its future."
Alex worked at the Trust for six years before becoming Director in April 2015 - first as Head of Finance, Economics and Strategy and then as Deputy Director. His work has included the licensing and regulation of the BBC's services and their market impact. He has led the Trust's public policy negotiations with Government and its programme of audience research and public consultation, as well as its work to scrutinise and improve value for money.
Before joining the Trust, Alex was a civil servant – his work included developing media policy and helping to plan and deliver the 2012 Olympics.
He grew up in Yorkshire, and now lives in London with his wife and their four children.
