How did Blue Peter help David Beckham's football career?

As a special 'Happy 50th Birthday' present to David Beckham we've found this amazing clip from the Blue Peter archive. In 2005 Beckham was awarded a Gold Blue Peter badge for his sporting achievements and services to football. But how did Blue Peter help David Beckham become a football superstar?

How Blue Peter inspired David Beckham to join a football academy

In this clip Blue Peter presenter Liz Barker excitedly explores how young David watched Blue Peter as a child every day and was inspired to join the Sir Bobby Charlton Soccer School, which then led to his incredible career as a legendary footballer, Manchester United superstar and former England Captain.

Beckham goes on to chat about his own football academy which he founded in 2005, where current England Captain, Harry Kane attended as an 11-year-old with the same dream as young David Beckham, to become a football superstar.

David Beckham and Harry Kane are both from Essex, they were born in the same hospital, went to the same high school and played for the same local football club as youngsters, but it wasn't until 2005 when Harry Kane attended the Beckham Academy did they first meet.
